Tour boats at Niagara Falls shows difference between U.S., Canadian approach to COVID-19

These Images of the boats from the US and Canada Niagara fall cruising past each has caused the discussion to swell on social media, with many suggesting the stark contrast in passengers is symbolic of the difference in the Canadian and American approaches to COVID-19.

At the famous waterfalls on the U.S.-Canadian border, Canadian ferries are limited to just six passengers per boat, out of a 700-person capacity. But on the U.S. side, the ferries are operating at 50 percent capacity, according to Maid of the Mist boat tours.

“We actually took a picture of the [American] boat,” said Julie Pronovost, visiting from Quebec with her family on Tuesday. “I don’t find that it’s very safe to be on a boat like that. It’s much better here.”

Tourists at the falls on Tuesday said they felt much safer with the six-person per boat limit.

“I’m glad I’m in Canada,” said Amanda Barnes of Brampton, Ont. “You can see why the pandemic is raging in the United States and not in Canada when you look at the difference between the boats.”

  • Somebody Look !! Life of a International Student in Canada amid Covid-19

Somebody Look !! Life of a International Student in Canada amid Covid-19

Canada, a country of dreams for many young people around the world, especially for Indians. Nowadays, the world is fighting with something very unusual, things which we used to see in the movies where everything is lockdown and going out from home means risking our lives.

Like every year, lots of people have migrated to Canada this year with new dreams in a beautiful country and now facing completely unexpected situations. I, Manpreet Singh is one of those who came here enrolled in Humber College, was desperately waiting for summers so that I can start exploring places and do part-time jobs to help my expenses. Now, April is about to come and life has seen a complete upside-down throughout the world.

I know everyone is facing a bad time, no one has any idea about what is going to be next but do you know what is worst for the International students?

First living alone in such a hard time where the family is 7000 miles away facing such a situation all alone with worries about us. Secondly, colleges/universities are closed and courses have moved online. Imagine students spent a lot of money coming sofar and study in a new environment, end up studying online in a completely locked space. So now we students are paying a lot of rent, groceries, college fees, just for staying in the room and studying online dar from family. So depressing right !!

Not just that, as we are students, living in a shared space so chances of getting a virus are way too high. Further life has become so depressingly that even when my head pains I feel like I am the victim, and to make it worst, I am all alone having no idea about the procedure to go and test my self. I have no idea what documents I will have to bring for a test, how much money I will end up spending and end up asking for claims. Yes, that’s the moment when I feel why did I come here and I literally don’t want to discuss that with my family as they will get scared. I want them to feel I am fine and strong here so that they can just think about taking care of them.

I know the situation is tough for everyone, not just us, I know Govt is doing a lot to support but are they thinking about International students? Do they have any idea what they are going through? They need to pay rent, pay fees, buy groceries and survive. No such notice as anything they are going to do to help them survive seems like all they care is about Canadians only or people who are well settled here. I have heard nothing like they are going to do for us financially or even taken any step to make health checkups easy for us. I just want them to know, International students have helped a lot to grow this country and even if they don’t care about us due to our current status, even then just be selfish and remember if we will have to go out and work and Canadians will not, still that won’t help Govt to reduce the spread. Because probably I will be joining a job soon, I actually joined it, they selected me and called me for orientation which I had to cancel due to advice by Govt to stay home.

I don’t know what’s next but hoping everything will be under control soon and things will get better for everyone. So if anybody feels like helping me in this situation, feel free to donate anything. Even 5$ is appreciated. Click Here to donate.  or Send at Paypal

Just be safe, keep your self clean.

#BoycottTimHortons Trends as Employee Receives Notice ‘I expect you to show up’ After Sick Note.

Tim Hortons is facing a lot of criticism after note warning employees over sickness at an Edmonton location posted online.”For team members who call in sick, I have you scheduled for a reason. Therefore, I expect you to show up,” read the note, which was posted to Reddit on Monday.

The whole world is fighting with Coronavirus and all over Canada people have been asked to stay at home if they don’t feel well. Public health officials in Alberta asked people to strict social distancing and self-isolation policies, at times pleading with people to stay home if they’re sick.

“We have been in contact with the restaurant owner and they have removed the sign and have reiterated to their employees the policy, which is clear — team members should always stay home if they are sick.”

After it was posted to Reddit, the photo of the note received hundreds of comments. The photo has since been deleted from the post.

  • How to Find a Job in Canada ? Here is the Guide

How to Find a Job in Canada ? Here is the Guide

If you are failed to find a job in Canada and wondering what steps you are missing or doing wrong, dont worry, here we are with the complete guide which will help you find work here. Here I am writing the best 6 things you must care of while applying for job in Canada.

1.Setup your resume in a way Canadians like

The resume format in Canada must contain (in this order):

    1. Your contact information
    2. Professional / career information
    3. Work experience (Add extra details if it’s related to the job you are applying)
    4. Education / professional development

Where available, you may also add technical skills and volunteer experience/community involvement.

    2. Do not bomb your resume/cv to many companies

One of the most common mistakes people seeking jobs are doing is bombing their same resume or cover letter to so many different companies. Most companies have hired 3rd party networks to handle the applications and there are chances that the same 3rd party company will receive your application for different job applications. Be selective in your job search and apply for a job you feel you are the right candidate for, do not form an attitude of I can do any job anywhere.

    3. Be enthusiastic

Make sure you have a contact for the company and follow up within a week of submitting your resume to show your interest. “Thank-you” emails after an interview set you apart from other candidates applying for jobs in Canada. These marginal gains can add up to getting a job in Canada.

    4. Use the resources available to you

Websites such as LinkedIn or Indeed are the best tools to look for a job. The Linkedin tool for professionals is effective in your online resume and network building. Recruiters and employers are using this tool every day to source candidates for jobs in Canada. Further, you will find lots of job listings in indeed website.

    5. Get your qualification accredited (If required)

Your profession may require your foreign qualifications to be accredited in Canada. Professions such as teaching, physiotherapy, nursing, and social work, among others, usually require additional accreditation. This process can take a while, so be prepared.

    6 Be confident and active

Moving to a new country is a challenge. Finding jobs in Canada when you have to build your support network from scratch is not that easy as it looks from far. So just be confident, it is tough but very much possible.

Also check in with your local library, as many host regular sessions with tips for getting jobs in your area.

Day 1 at Humber College – Orientation Experience and Getting Lost in the Streets – Blog

Hi everyone, I have recently moved to Canada for a 1-year certificate course at Humber College North Campus and would like to share my experience through this beautiful platform Life of Canada.

So, I am enrolled in Jan intake having classes from 6th January and today was an orientation day.Orientation was around 11 AM but I came around 8 AM as my brother in law was leaving for office and as it was my first day so thought it will be convenient for me if someone drops.

So at first, my brother in law took my pic while dropping me outside the college, I was excited as from being a professor in my previous country I was moving back to student life. Moving ahead, I entered the college, interacted with the helpdesk, found a few volunteers to help new students. A guy named Chris took us to the place where we need to reach for orientation. There I saw many students from all over the world, few I could sense that is from my country so I started introducing my self to them, later on, we end up making a group of 5, couple of guys from Amritsar and Gujrat and 2 girls from Hydrabad and Moga. All were having different course but it was nice spending 2-3 hours with them discussing the experiences we all had in the new country till now.In around 11 we got into the opening ceremony, within 30 mins seats were full, in fact, lots of students could not get a place to sit or even enter the auditorium. There were 1000s of International students who were attending and what I liked the most was that all the management was done by volunteer students of the college. The orientation session went nice followed by faculty session which was very interesting. I liked the way we interacted with our faculty, I did ask many questions and felt positive about selecting this college for myself. After the session, I did end up making a few friends from my country. We had lots of talks and spent time in Tim Hortons of Humber college. All went pretty well till now, then the time came to go back to the home through the bus for the first time. Halfway through all went pretty nice and from the place, I supposed to change bus I lost myself due to my phone battery died.Imagine in cold weather around evening time in totally a new place I was completely lost and had no way to either call anyone or even see the google maps. Though I was not afraid only thing that was making me worry was if my sis tries to call me and finds my phone switched off she will get tensed which I did not want. This was the moment in which I actually felt I have come too far from my home so I was figuring it out how to reach home now. There was a bus stop, I waited there for like 20 mins but no bus came, then I saw on the signboard that the bus which supposed to come here is of different number than I supposed to take. So I started walking with a guess and found an Asian guy who helped me telling me the directions of home. It was like 2.2Kms from there so I thought better to walk rather finding a bus route and I kept walking for like 50 mins and could not find anything similar to what I was seeing around house.I was in doubt but kept walking and walking until I found one more guy who again checked the location on the map and told me I am going in the opposite direction. I was hell tired and that effort in the wrong direction and thought of giving stress to my sis annoyed me a lot and I just started moving towards the location. Soon I saw the curve which we used to cross while going home and I started running after seeing that. I guess that took further 30-40 mins to reach but that moment was so satisfactory. I was like now I am getting the feel of a new country. So once I reached home, I was so sweaty, changed, relaxed, had a meal and was laughing with the incident on my day 1 of the college. It was a small incident, let’s see what more I experience in my journey here.

  • 4 Ways To Increase Your Express Entry Points For Canada PR

4 Ways To Increase Your Express Entry Points For Canada PR

Express Entry is the fastest, and most popular way to  get Canadian permanent residence. But since candidates have to compete against each other to be invited to apply, it’s important to do everything you can to maximize your Express Entry points!

So we are listing few points which can help you increase your Express Entry Points.

    1. IELTS SCORE

Improving your IELTS score is the number one way to increase your points. On their own, good IELTS results can get you up to 160 points.

But if you have good IELTS and post-secondary education can get you an additional 50 points. Good IELTS andat least three years of work experience can get you another 50 points.

You need to score at least Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 to be eligible for Express Entry under the Federal Skilled Worker program, which is at least 6.0 on each language ability on the IELTS. But if you can score CLB 9 in all language abilities, you could be looking at up to 260 Express Entry points for just your language ability.

    2. SPOUSAL/SIBLING POINTS

It may not apply to some candidates, but if you have a spouse or common-law partner, you may be missing out on some points you can claim.

There are three possibilities here, and it’s worth looking into them all.

First, your spouse or partner may get you more points. By retaking a language test, or getting an educational credential assessment (ECA) for any post-secondary education they have, your spouse or partner could increase your Express Entry points.

Second, you may actually have a higher score as a single applicant.Since your profile is scored differently depending on whether or not you have an accompanying spouse or partner, depending on your spouse or partner’s profile, you may actually increase your score if you list them as non-accompanying. If you are granted permanent residence, you can still sponsor them to join you in Canada, but it does mean a period of separation.

Third, your spouse may actually be the stronger applicant. You should definitely run through the exercise of trying to calculate how many points your spouse would get if they were the principal applicant, with or without you accompanying them.

Immigration Tip: If you and your spouse or partner are both strong candidates, you can each submit a profile to the Express Entry pool and list each other as accompanying. That way you double your chances of success!

     3. STUDY

Going back to school is a pretty big investment to increase your score, but it can also have a big impact. A short program like a one-year post-secondary certificate could get you a lot of points. If you already have one post-secondary degree of three years or more, worth 120 points, and take a second one-year program, you can claim an additional 8 points for just education. If you already had CLB 9, and two years of Canadian work experience, you can claim an additional 50 points for skills transferability. That’s 58 total additional Express Entry points.

    4. FRENCH

A significant number of CRS Express Entry points are available for proficiency in English and/or French.

As was the case before the changes introduced on June 6, single permanent residency candidates received up to 136 points for their first official language, and up to 24 points for their second official language. Candidates with an accompanying spouse/common-law partner can receive up to 148 points for the first language (taking into account both partners’ language skills), plus an additional 22 points for a second language (the accompanying spouse/partner may only be assessed for one language).

  • 6 Things Which Makes Canada Famous

6 Things Which Makes Canada Famous

“All of these things make up Canada in many ways. We’re a nation of immigration and for the most part, I think we all value the strength that diversity has given us. We also have a massive land mass with very little population, which allows for a lot of wild nature and wildlife.

With this in mind, we’ve compiled a blog to some of the different things this magnificent country is famed for.

    Nature, wildlife and beautiful landscapes

Canada is full of incredible outdoor wonders and is famed for its natural beauty. Its varied coastlines are one source of its enviable natural beauty. Canada is home to the world’s largest coastline (202,080 km long to be precise) stretching from the Pacific to the Atlantic.

Canada also has more lakes than all other countries in the world combined. It is therefore unsurprising that these lakes are world-famous and the likes of Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are some of the most photographed places on earth.

As our wildlife in Canada article explains, the country is home to a number of spectacular animals. So if you’ve dreamt of seeing polar bears, grizzly bears and killer whales all in one holiday, then Canada is the place to visit.

Canada is famous for protecting its natural places with 40 national parks across the country and countless more provincial parks. These parks offer the best wildlife viewing opportunities and activities from hiking and kayaking to mountain biking and zip lining.

Canada’s greatest national parks are full of beautiful natural sights that showcase the stunning environment that’s on offer to you on your holiday. Some of the most visited and popular national parks in the country are Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Thousand Island National Park to name just a few.

    Polite People

In some parts of the world it’s not very easy to get an apology, but in Canada apologies will fly in from all directions.

Canadians will even apologise if they are not at fault! This politeness doesn’t just represent one province in Canada; it transcends boundaries and is evident across the whole country.

If you have booked flights to Calgary, Toronto or Vancouver you will notice that everyone is unerringly polite. It makes travel in Canada that much easier, as you know you’ll be welcomed as a tourist and will never need to feel embarrassed or worried to ask for help and directions.

    Maple Syrup

    Maple Syrup

Maple syrup is most definitely something Canada is famous for, with around 80 per cent of the world’s maple syrup produced in Canada. Quebec is by far the largest producer thanks to its abundance of maple trees. The tree sap is collected and reduced to produce the syrup, in a process that was first discovered by Canada’s indigenous peoples and has been refined over the centuries.

    Ice Hockey

    Ice hockey

Ice hockey in Canada is like football in the UK: it’s huge.

It is Canada’s official national winter sport and the country is regarded as the birthplace of ice hockey, with the first game believed to have been played in Montreal in the 1870s. Canadians look at the sport as their own and over the last century, innumerable men, women and children will have played hockey at varying levels or watched the sport.

    Northern Lights

    Northern Lights in Canada

Canada has lots of vast untouched wilderness areas that are perfect for seeing the greatest light show on earth: the northern lights, or aurora borealis as they are also known.

Although countries like Iceland, Finland and Norway receive a lot of attention for being great places to spot the lights, Canada is actually an excellent choice. Much of the country’s northern reaches are close to the Arctic Circle and fall within the auroral oval (the zones around the poles where the lights are visible).

The northern lights attract people from all over the world on holidays to Canada to catch a glimpse of those vibrant purples, greens, reds and yellows dancing in the sky.

    Road trips

    Road trips in Canada

Rugged and vast, Canada is a road-tripper’s dream.

There are so many drives to pick from and you can hire a car and travel at your own pace to drink in the scenery along the way.

There’s mountains, beaches, coastlines, rainforests, cities and lots more that you can take in during a drive through the country.
